Desert Trees – Sunday, March 20th

Sunday, March 20, 2022
TIME: 12:00 noon – 3:30 pm

LOCATION: Anastasia Mak Art Studio, 5006 N Hermitage, Chicago IL
COST: $67 (all materials included)

This is the second (of just 2) in-person studio painting workshops for the year 2022.

I had a recent opportunity to photograph some trees in the Arizona desert, and I think they will serve as a great subject for our next workshop! Their branch structure is unique with interesting twists and turns, they are surrounded by vivid sky and prickly plants, and invite an opportunity to play with lots of color.

In this 3.5 hour workshop, you will first work from a reference image to sketch out your individual composition. (In preparation for this class, you will receive several reference photos to choose from). Then, layer by layer, you will define your tree and branches and add texture. The sky colors can be creatively played with to give your painting a “stained glass” look. You will build your piece while following artist’s instructions (that’s me!) as she paints in front of you, explaining the process step-by-step. But, as it always goes with my classes, you will be encouraged to develop your very own unique art piece, instead of merely copying the demo painting.

(No previous painting experience is required to attend this workshop).

Canvas size for this workshop will be 11×14

Maximum class size – 8 people

UPDATE: this workshop is now SOLD OUT. Please reach out if you would like to be placed on a waiting list in case of any cancelations.
